Top Dressing Machine spreading for uniform spreading of filtered topsoil to level, insulate, and |
The machine spreading of top soil in existing turf. Where as throwing soil on turf lays the material on the grass in piles, my machine uniformly shifts and spreads filtered topsoil into the turf. Extra material is spread into low areas and divots. Low areas are graded level by dragging over them. Top dressing levels, insulates, breaks up (thatches), places soft soil for thin grass to run into, and replenishes depleted soil.
I recommend the lawn is core aerated directly following the top dressing so that the lawn can breathe more easily. A core aeration also helps to mix the topsoil into the existing subsoil. Depending on how lumpy the lawn is, I sometimes drag the entire lawn with a golf course drag mat after the soil is spread. This does a great job of leveling.
After the top dressing and core aeration, simply stay off the lawn for a week. Your lawn will require less water by as much as half for a couple of months because the top dressing material insulates the lawn like a net blanket. This material is a combination of topsoil blended with white sand. White sand by itself is not a good growing medium and therefore I do not recommend it. Get on a yearly schedule. |
